The Oberois Rajgarh Palace is a celebration of heritage architecture, traditional craftsmanship, and contemporary luxury. Our approach to the project was rooted in preserving the palace’s original architectural character while carefully preparing it for its transformation into an exceptional five-star luxury resort.

The restoration has been guided by a deep respect for the building’s historic fabric. Rather than replacing traditional construction with modern substitutes, the project revives time-honoured building techniques and locally rooted craftsmanship wherever possible. Traditional Surkhi-based masonry and mortar techniques, lime plaster, and lime finishes have been used to retain the authenticity, breathability, texture, and natural ageing characteristics associated with historic Indian architecture.

One of the defining features of the palace is its beautifully carved architectural detailing. Intricately crafted stone elements, ornamental façades, arches, columns, mouldings, jharokhas and traditional decorative features give the property its distinctive identity. These details have been carefully studied, restored and integrated into the overall architectural language so that the craftsmanship remains central to the experience of the palace.

The planning of the property presented an equally important challenge: how to introduce the comfort, functionality and infrastructure expected of a contemporary five-star resort without compromising the soul of the historic structure. Guest movement, hospitality functions, services and modern amenities have therefore been sensitively incorporated within the existing architectural framework.

The resulting design creates a dialogue between old-world grandeur and understated contemporary luxury. Courtyards, verandahs, carved architectural elements, traditional materials and richly detailed spaces retain the romance of the original palace, while the new hospitality planning introduces the refinement and comfort required for a world-class resort.

For us, The Oberois Rajgarh Palace is more than a restoration project. It represents an approach to conservation in which architecture is not merely preserved, but allowed to evolve with dignity—keeping traditional materials, techniques and craftsmanship alive while giving a historic palace a meaningful new life.
